In the WineUp programme we want every year to include a masterclass dedicated to a Romanian, and the first subject last year were the wines of Transylvania. This year we have the pleasure of presenting a very special region for the Romanian viticultural industry: Dealu Mare. What we can say about Dealu Mare is that it is a wonderland of wines, with an exceptional terroir in which many qualitative miracles can happen. From our point of view, nobody can talk about this region better that the ones who knew long ago to build a successful story on this terroir: Davino.
The impact of the terroir over the quality of the wine, the challenges of a producer in the Dealu Mare region, the story of the flavours in the wine bottles, the convergence of ideas, the avant garde vision, the coherence of the marketing strategies, all these will be present during the masterclass by the persons who created and developed Davino: Dan Balaban si Bogdan Costachescu.
The Dealu Mare region is situated in the viticultural area of the Piemont of the Carpathian Curvature, in the Prahova and Buzău counties, and it includes the viticultural centres Boldești, Valea Călugărească, Urlați, Ceptura, Tohani, Cricov, Breaza, Pietroasa, Merei and Zoresti. It is considered the country of the red wines, due to the fact that there are favourable weather conditions, as well as other elements such as: the disposal of the vineyards on the sun-exposed mountainside, a higher temperature during the vegetation of the vineyards, moderate rainfall and, last but not least, the cultivation of valuable varieties.
The complexity of the way in which all processes are thought and practiced, taking into consideration each relevant part for the final product (the soil, the climate, the precipitations, the plan of actions on the vineyards) defines, in the end, the quality of an entire production. And the quality of a production defines the keystone of a winery success. Dan Balaban and Bogdan Costachescu will answer any curiosity about the work of a winery owner and a winemaker in Dealu Mare.
